Where Mission Meets Music
The Story
Brian Russell Collins is more than a musician—he’s a survivor, a caregiver, and someone whose life has been shaped by cancer at every stage.
A four-time cancer survivor, Brian’s journey is one of resilience, loss, and ultimately, purpose.
At just five years old, Brian was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
In the middle of hospital visits, uncertainty, and treatments he didn’t yet understand, his mother, Nancy, found a way to bring him comfort—through music. Artists like Huey Lewis and The News and Van Halen became more than just bands; they became a source of calm, strength, and escape.
During that time, Brian had the chance to meet one of his heroes, Huey Lewis, thanks to his mother’s determination and a local radio station that made the moment possible. Years later, at 17, she made it happen again—arranging for Brian to meet Van Halen, the same band that helped him through his earliest fight.
Music wasn’t just entertainment—it became part of how he survived.
The Fight Didn’t End
Brian’s journey with cancer didn’t stop in childhood.
At 26, he was diagnosed with lymphoma.
At 32, he faced stomach cancer.
At 40, he was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, Polycythemia Vera.
Each time, he fought—and survived.
Since 2022, Brian has shown no signs of recurrence, but he continues to advocate for proactive screenings and early detection, knowing firsthand how critical they are.
From Survivor to Advocate
In 2022, cancer returned to Brian’s life in a different way.
His sister, Lisa, was diagnosed with Stage 4 small bowel cancer. During her battle, his mother, Nancy, was also diagnosed—this time with Stage 4 brain cancer.
Within six months, Brian lost both his mother and his sister.
After surviving so much himself, this loss reshaped everything.
Turning Music Into
a Movement
Rather than stepping away, Brian leaned into the one thing that had always carried him through—music.
He joined the American Cancer Society’s Men Wear Pink campaign and began raising funds for cancer research. Around the same time, he created Fight For Nashville—an event designed to bring people together, honor those impacted by cancer, and raise meaningful support.
What started as a tribute quickly became something more.
A Cause to Rock
In just a few years, Fight For Nashville has grown into a powerful community-driven event bringing together artists, fans, and supporters to create real impact.
Now operating as a full nonprofit, A Cause to Rock continues that mission on a larger scale by raising awareness, supporting cancer patients, and building a community rooted in hope.
Brian’s mission is simple:
To help families in the fight get the resources and support they need, so that one day, fewer people have to hear the words, “you have cancer.”
“My goal is that one day when we do our events, we never have to raise money for research anymore
—because we’ll know we’ve won
and found the cure.”
— Brian Russell Collins
